Brief Race Report

Although there had been heavy overnight rain, the weather conditions imporoved before competitiors arrived at the starting line for the Isel Cross Multi-Terrain race on the outskirts of Cockermouth. The cool and sunny weather made almost ideal conditions for fast running, with Jackie Hargreaves competing for CFR setting a new Ladies course record of 36:47. This was almost a minute faster than Tracy Walker's winning time in 2005. There was a fine run from another Lady competitor, Gay Eastoe from Woodend near Egremnot competing for Blengdale AC (1st Lady Super Veteran in 46:34).

One of Gay's Blengdale AC clubmates, Paul Curtis from Beckermet, was a clear winner in the Men's Category, winning by almost 2 minutes in 34:00. In 2nd place, and 1st Veteran Over 40, was Dave Atkinson from Blengdale AC (35:59), ahead of Gerard Mulgrew of Ellenborough AC, whose time of 36:47 matched that of Jackie Hargreaves. First Derwent AC finisher was Tony Davis (37:21) after sprinting away from teammate Joe Ritson (37:31) towards the end. First Super Veteran (Over 50) was Keith Thompson (Derwent AC) in a time of 38:11, with Noel Hakeman from Dallam Running Club 1st Senior Veteran (Over 65) in 52:31.

The next Derwent Athletic Club open event is the 'Lambfoot Loop', a 5.5 Mile Road Race to be held at Cockermouth on Tuesday evening 18 April (Easter week) starting at 7.00pm. This is the first of four events in the ever-popular Derwent AC Grand Prix Series.
